Global Issues From a Statistical Point of View

Before getting into the facts, I would like to mention that this post’s sole intention is to inform and spread awareness on issues that are becoming harder to ignore and that we need to start talking about more than we already do. Therefore, in this particular post, we’ll be focusing on the negative aspects of our current society, it is important to clarify that there are countless positive aspects of our current society, we just won’t be focusing on those today. That being said, let’s get started.

Inequality

  1. African Americans are 13.4% of the population in the US, yet, they constituted 34% of the correctional population during 2014.
  2. Black youth are five times more likely to be detained than white youth.
  3. Women do 66% of the world’s work, produce 50 percent of all the food produced, yet, they earn 10% of the income and own 1% of the property.
  4. At least 200 million women have undergone FGM (female genital mutilation).
  5. One in every five women or girl has suffered from physical and/or sexual aggression by an intimate partner in the last 12 months.
  6. Only 52 % of married women or in a union freely make their decisions about sexual relations, contraceptive use, and health care.
